Purvi Shenoy, the founder of Girl Up Convergence, was inspired to start her organization after watching an engaging YouTube series about a woman in poverty facing challenges in accessing menstrual pads and education on periods.

Girl Up Convergence is a dynamic community approved by the United Nations (UN) that empowers girls in Southeast Asia to challenge gender inequalities, amplify their voices, and reach their full potential. The organization focuses on fostering education, health, leadership development, and advocacy to create a safe place for girls to thrive.

This year, education is at the forefront of the organization’s mission. In collaboration with a STEM organization, the organization provides coding workshops and math lessons for free on their Discord server. They are also working on establishing an in-house tutoring firm/committee to provide access to the internet, free books, and in-depth study sessions with esteemed tutors. Additionally, GUC collaborates with Period Sacramento to create social media campaigns about period poverty and educate people on menstrual health. They also support domestic violence shelters by raising awareness about the causes of domestic violence and providing resources, including menstrual pads and tampons.

Empowering girls is a journey that requires commitment, collaboration, and a collective effort.
